How it works

How double glazing quotes work

You fill in one form, one company calls to confirm it, and local installers quote in writing. We do not sell windows.

  1. Woman filling in an online form on her laptop

    Tell us about the job

Property type, how many windows, frame material and when you want them fitted. It takes about a minute.

  2. Smiling man taking a phone call at home

    We confirm the details

A quick call checks what you need, then your enquiry goes to local installers who cover your postcode.

  3. Fitter installing a white uPVC window frame

    Compare like for like

Each installer surveys and quotes in writing. Check every quote against our quote comparison checklist before you sign anything.

Online first, survey second

Can I get a quote for new windows online?

Yes, you can start a new windows quote online, but the fixed price comes after a survey of your home. An online figure is a guide built on standard sizes. The written quote prices your own openings, so it is the one to compare.

Why online prices differ from your written quote

Online prices assume a standard window in a standard opening. Your quote changes with the measured sizes, which panes open, the glass rating, the frame finish, removal of the old frames and anything the surveyor finds in the opening.

  1. Online, in the form

Your postcode, property type, window count, frame material and style.

  2. At the survey

The installer measures every opening, checks the walls around it, agrees the glass and opening style per window, and looks at access on upper floors.

  3. In writing

An itemised quote for the windows that were measured, which you compare with the other installers' quotes.

The same applies to a window replacement quote: a price given without a survey is an estimate. If only the glass, seals or hardware have failed, our pages on window replacement in London and window replacement in Manchester explain when a repair is enough.

Before you sign

What a double glazing quote should include

A double glazing quote, or any window replacement quote, lists every window, the glass rating, the scheme registration and the guarantee in writing. Use our guide on how to compare double glazing quotes to line them up like for like.

A fair quote has

  • Every window listed with its size, style and which panes open
  • The glass spec in writing: a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or lower, or Window Energy Rating band B or better
  • FENSA or CERTASS registration, so the work is certified
  • The guarantee length, and whether it is insurance-backed
  • Removal of the old frames, making good, and the deposit and payment stages

Walk away if you hear

  • "This price is only good if you sign today"
  • A large "discount" off an inflated list price
  • A request for a large deposit before anything is made
  • A single total with no breakdown per window
  • No written information about your right to cancel

Put the same questions to ask a double glazing salesman to every installer who visits.

Same house, different totals

Why double glazing quotes vary

Double glazing quotes vary because installers price different specifications, fitting work and guarantees for the same house. Check these five lines before you compare totals.

How to check a double glazing installer

Check each installer on the scheme's own register: the FENSA installer search by postcode, company name or FENSA number, or the CERTASS search on Certified Competent. A registered installer self-certifies the work and you receive a certificate. We do not check installers for you. FENSA certificates cover England and Wales, and Scotland follows its own building standards.

The full step-by-step check, the survey and the sales tactics to walk away from are on our page on double glazing installers.

Four checks per installer

  • FENSA or CERTASS registration, found on the scheme's own register
  • A Building Regulations certificate after fitting, in England and Wales
  • An insurance-backed guarantee, named in writing
  • A written, itemised quote after a survey of your home

What installers quote for

What you can get double glazing quotes for

Installers quote for replacement windows in every common style, in uPVC, aluminium or timber, with double or triple glazing. Tell us the style and material in the form, and ask each installer to price the same specification. For doors, ask the installer on the call.

Window styles

Casement

Side or top hung frames that open outwards. Ask the installer which panes open and which are fixed.

Sash

Vertical sliders in Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian homes. See our page on sash window replacement for consent and spec checks.

Tilt and turn

Tilts inwards to vent and swings inwards to clean. Ask how the opening meets the escape rule on upper floors.

Bay and bow

Projecting windows built from several units. Ask every installer to quote the bay as its own line.

Flush casement

Opening sashes sit level with the frame instead of lapping over it.

French casement

A pair of side-hung casements that open from the middle.

Frame materials: uPVC, aluminium and timber

Every quote names one frame material, and the material changes what you ask the installer.

MaterialWhat the quote namesAsk the installer
uPVCProfile system, colour or foil finishWhich profile system, and is the colour the same inside and out?
AluminiumThermal break, powder-coat colourWhat is the whole-window U-value or energy rating?
TimberTimber type, factory finishWhat finish, and what maintenance keeps the guarantee valid?

Double or triple glazing

Double glazing already meets the England Building Regulations limit for replacement windows: a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or a Window Energy Rating of band B. Triple glazing is an upgrade, so ask each installer to price both options on the same quote.

FAQ

Double glazing quotes, answered

For timing, contracts, deposits and your rights, read our double glazing buying advice. Last reviewed 1 October 2026.

How many double glazing quotes should I get?

Get three written quotes for the same specification. One quote gives you nothing to compare against. The quotes only help when every installer prices the same number of windows, the same frame material and the same glass.

Are the quotes really free?

Yes. You pay nothing to request quotes and you are under no obligation to accept any of them. We are a free quote-matching service, not an installer.

Can I get a quote for double glazed windows online?

You start a double glazing quote online, and the written quote follows a survey of your windows at home, as set out above.

What is the average cost for double glazing?

Installers set the price after a survey, so the figure that counts is the one in your written quotes; for typical fitted prices by style and material, see what double glazing costs on DoubleGlazingCostCalculator.co.uk.

How much will double glazing cost in the UK in 2026?

The 2026 cost of your job is the total on written quotes for your own windows, priced after a survey, so ask three installers to quote the same specification.

How expensive is it to double glaze windows?

The price of double glazing your windows depends on the window count, their sizes, the frame material, the glass and the access, which is why each installer surveys before quoting.

How much is a window quote?

A window quote is free. You pay nothing to request quotes here, and the installers survey your home and quote in writing with no obligation to accept.

What is the cheapest way to get double glazing?

The cheapest way is to get three written quotes for the same specification and compare them line by line. Our guide on how to compare double glazing quotes shows which lines to check.

Can I get a grant for new windows?

Grants for new windows depend on the schemes open in your area, and the quotes are free but the windows are not. GOV.UK lists the current schemes on its page Find ways to save energy in your home, so check there before you rely on one.

How to tell if double glazing is good quality?

Good quality double glazing in England reaches a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or lower, or a Window Energy Rating of band B or better, under Approved Document L. It comes with a FENSA or CERTASS certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee named in writing.

Will installers keep calling me?

You get one call, text or email to confirm your enquiry, and the local installers it goes to may contact you to arrange quotes. You can withdraw your consent at any time; our privacy policy explains how.

What happens to my details?

Your details are shared only with your consent, with our lead partner and the local installers who cover your postcode. Our privacy policy names the partner, says how long details are kept and explains how to withdraw.

Do I need to be the homeowner?

Yes. Quotes are for homeowners and landlords, because installers fit windows only with the owner's agreement. Tenants ask their landlord to request quotes. Leaseholders often need permission from the landlord or management company first.

Can I cancel after I sign?

If you sign at home, you usually have at least 14 days to cancel, but made-to-measure windows can be an exception, so check the contract before you sign. Our guide to the double glazing cooling off period explains the rules.

Are the rules different in Scotland and Wales?

Yes. Wales has its own building regulations, and FENSA and CERTASS installers self-certify there as in England. FENSA certificates do not cover Scotland: replacing a window and its frame needs no building warrant but must meet the Scottish building standards, so ask each installer how they confirm that in writing. Our pages on double glazing in Edinburgh and Aberdeen double glazing quotes show how to check an installer where FENSA does not operate.
